Texas Tech Men's Golf in Fourth After Two Rounds at NCAA Urbana Regional

URBANA, IL — With one round remaining, the No. 23 Texas Tech men’s golf team sits in fourth place at the NCAA Urbana Regional, putting the Red Raiders in position to advance to the NCAA Championships later this month.

Texas Tech carded a 3-over-par 287 in Tuesday’s second round at Atkins Golf Club, following a 5-under 279 in the opening round. The Red Raiders are 2-under for the tournament and hold a one-shot lead over fifth-place Troy and a six-shot advantage over sixth-place Marquette. The top five teams after Wednesday’s final round will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 23–28, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

No. 14 Illinois leads the regional at 10-under, followed by No. 2 Oklahoma State and UNLV, both at 7-under. Oklahoma State surged into a tie for second after a 9-under 275, the lowest team round of the day.

Senior Calum Scott once again paced the Red Raiders with a 2-under 69, following his 3-under 68 on Monday. Scott is 5-under for the tournament and tied for fourth overall among 71 individual competitors. He opened Tuesday’s round with 12 consecutive bogey-free holes and finished with four birdies and two bogeys.

Sophomore Tim Wiedemeyer remained in the top 20 after a second straight even-par 71. He is tied for 16th individually. Ben Gregg and Connor Graham also posted countable scores for Tech with rounds of 74 and 73, respectively. Gregg is tied for 24th, while Graham sits tied for 30th. Charlie DeLong, who shot a 76 on Tuesday, is tied for 45th.

Texas Tech will tee off Wednesday from the 10th hole beginning at 8:33 a.m. CDT as the team looks to secure its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
