URBANA, IL – The No. 23 Texas Tech men's golf team secured its fifth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance on Wednesday, finishing fifth at the NCAA Urbana Regional at Atkins Golf Club.
The Red Raiders concluded the 54-hole event at 1-under-par (851), joining No. 14 Illinois and No. 2 Oklahoma State, who tied for first at 15-under, as well as UNLV (-6) and Troy (-2) as the five teams advancing from the regional. Tech will now prepare for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships, set for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Texas Tech relied on a strong opening round of 5-under-par (279) to set the tone, followed by rounds of 287 and 285 to secure the final qualifying spot among 13 teams in the regional. The Red Raiders and the four other advancing programs were the only teams to finish under par.
Senior Calum Scott led the way for Texas Tech, finishing tied for fifth individually at 6-under-par (207). Scott posted rounds of 68, 69, and 70, narrowly missing three consecutive rounds in the 60s after a double bogey on his final hole. It marked his first top-five finish since the 2024 Baton Rouge Regional.
Ben Gregg and Connor Graham each carded even-par 71s in Wednesday’s final round, while Charlie DeLong posted a 73 to complete Tech’s team score. Tim Wiedemeyer finished with a 74.
This year marks the Red Raiders’ 17th NCAA Championship appearance in program history and the 13th under head coach Greg Sands. The team’s best national finish came in 2010, 2018, and 2022, when Tech placed fifth.
The NCAA Championship format includes three rounds of stroke play beginning May 23, with the top 15 teams advancing to a fourth round. The top eight teams after 72 holes will enter match play, culminating with the national title match on May 28.
