Texas Tech Advances to First-Ever NCAA Softball Super Regional

LUBBOCK, TX— The No. 12-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders punched their ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in program history Sunday night, defeating Mississippi State 9-6 before a record-setting crowd at Rocky Johnson Field.

Fueled by 14 hits and eight RBI, the Red Raiders (48-12) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning and withstood multiple rallies from the Bulldogs (39-19) to secure the Lubbock Regional title.

Freshman Hailey Toney and junior Mihyia Davis powered the offense with matching 3-for-4 performances. Toney, batting from the nine hole, launched a pair of solo home runs and scored three times, while Davis reached base four times and scored twice. The duo combined for five of Tech's nine runs.

NiJaree Canady improved to 28-5, allowing six runs (three earned) over five innings and striking out four. Chloe Riassetto earned her third save of the season after delivering two scoreless innings, including a crucial double play to escape a sixth-inning jam.

Lauren Allred continued her dominant postseason with three RBI, pushing her weekend total to eight. Her two-run single in the second and RBI double in the sixth proved critical.

Game Summary:

  • First Inning: Davis singled and later scored on a Bailey Lindemuth RBI double down the left field line.

  • Second Inning: Tech extended the lead to 4-0 on RBI hits from Alexa Langeliers and Allred after three consecutive singles loaded the bases.

  • Third Inning: A Lindemuth double and MSU fielding error plated Tech’s fifth run. The Bulldogs answered with three unearned runs on three hits and two Red Raider errors.

  • Fourth Inning: Toney led off with a solo homer on the first pitch to push the lead to 6-3.

  • Fifth Inning: Alana Johnson worked a 17-pitch walk and later scored on a Demi Elder sacrifice fly. MSU responded with three runs to close the gap to 7-6.

  • Sixth Inning: Toney again led off with a home run. Davis followed with a single and scored on Allred’s RBI double, giving Tech a 9-6 advantage.

  • Seventh Inning: Riassetto shut the door with a hitless inning, highlighted by a game-ending flyout to right.

The win capped a dominant postseason debut for Tech, who swept through the Lubbock Regional and outscored opponents 26-8.

Texas Tech travels to Tallahassee to face No. 5-seeded Florida State in the NCAA Super Regional. Dates and times will be announced by the NCAA.
