LUBBOCK, TX – Following Big 12 Championship sweeps, the Texas Tech track and field teams are headed to College Station this week for the NCAA West First Round at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Hosted by Texas A&M, the regional meet runs Wednesday through Saturday, with the Red Raider men competing on Wednesday and Friday and the women on Thursday and Saturday.
Athletes will look to secure one of 12 qualifying spots in each event to advance to the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 11-14. Most running events feature a first round and a quarterfinal, with the top 12 advancing after the quarterfinals. Field and throwing athletes will have three attempts to land in the top 12, while longer distance events like the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000, and 10,000 meters will be contested once.
The meet follows Texas Tech’s dominant performance at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Lawrence, Kansas, where the men scored 136 points to win by 36 and the women totaled 127 points for a 14.5-point victory. Head coach Wes Kittley was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for both squads, marking his 11th career conference coaching honor.
In the latest USTFCCCA rankings released Tuesday, the Red Raider women moved up to a season-best No. 3 nationally, while the men held steady at No. 11.
