OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The No. 12-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders (50-12) will make their first-ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) when they face fellow first-time qualifier Ole Miss (42-19) at 6 p.m. CT Thursday in Session 2 of the tournament in Oklahoma City.
The Red Raiders reached the sport’s biggest stage by capturing both the Big 12 Regular Season and Big 12 Tournament titles, hosting and winning their first-ever NCAA Regional and Super Regional in Lubbock.
Junior pitcher NiJaree Canady headlines the Tech roster. The Big 12 Pitcher of the Year holds a nation-leading 0.89 ERA and a 30-5 record, the second-most single-season wins in program history. She is also a Top 3 Finalist for National Player of the Year and leads the team with 11 home runs.
Senior outfielder Demi Elder has been instrumental since returning to the starting lineup. Texas Tech is 27-3 in that span, with Elder reaching base safely in 26 of those 30 contests.
Junior outfielder Mihyia Davis, a Big 12 First Team and All-Defensive Team honoree, has added power to her speed game with five home runs, 10 doubles, and six triples. She has tied the program’s single-season record for runs (63) and ranks second all-time in hits for a season (85). Davis also leads the team with 26 stolen bases.
Freshmen infielders Hailey Toney and Bailey Lindemuth have held down the left side of the infield. Toney has started every game at shortstop — the only freshman from a Power Four program to do so — while Lindemuth has started 60 of 62 games at third base. Both earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors.
Texas Tech is 1-2 all-time against Ole Miss, last facing the Rebels in 2001.
