LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech will open the 2025 season ranked in both major national polls, checking in at No. 23 in the Associated Press preseason rankings released Monday. The Red Raiders were previously slotted No. 24 in the Coaches Poll announced last week.
This marks Texas Tech’s first appearance in the AP Top 25 since September 23, 2018, when it was ranked No. 24 after defeating Oklahoma State, 41-17. The last time the Red Raiders appeared in both polls during the same week was November 23, 2013, while the last preseason appearance in both came before their historic 2008 campaign.
The ranking follows an offseason in which Texas Tech was lauded for assembling the nation’s No. 1 transfer portal class, according to multiple outlets, and returns a core group of veterans — including senior quarterback Behren Morton and Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Jacob Rodriguez. The Red Raiders bring back five offensive starters and seven defensive starters from last year’s squad.
Texas Tech opens the season August 30 at 6:30 p.m. against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Jones AT&T Stadium. Single-game tickets remain available, including the Red Raider 2-Pack, which offers fans a choice of two games from UAPB, Kent State, and Oregon State starting at $60.
