LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech junior cornerback Brice Pollock was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following a two-interception performance in the Red Raiders’ 45-14 win over Oregon State.
Pollock, a transfer from Mississippi State, is the second Red Raider in as many weeks to earn one of the conference’s two defensive weekly honors. He joins defensive lineman Skyler Gill-Howard, who was recognized for his pick-six against Kent State in Week 2. The award marks the first of Pollock’s collegiate career.
Pollock intercepted two passes in Saturday’s win, becoming the first Texas Tech player to do so since Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in 2023. He also tallied six tackles as the Red Raiders improved to 3-0.
With Pollock leading the secondary, the Texas Tech defense held Oregon State to just 289 total yards. Through three games, the Red Raiders rank 15th nationally in total defense (229.0 yards per game) and 22nd in scoring defense (11.7 points per game).
Texas Tech has dominated early in games, outscoring opponents 123-0 in the first half and 154-0 through three quarters. The team leads the FBS in point differential at +139, ahead of Indiana (+133) and Oregon (+132). All 35 points allowed by Tech this season have come in the fourth quarter.
The Big 12 also recognized Arizona State linebacker Jordan Crook with this week’s other defensive honor. A complete list of weekly award winners can be found at Big12Sports.com.
Pollock and the Red Raiders open conference play Saturday at Utah. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on FOX as part of the network’s Big Noon Kickoff coverage.
