LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech moved up to No. 12 in the Associated Press poll and No. 14 in the AFCA coaches poll Sunday following a 34-10 win over then-No. 16 Utah, marking the Red Raiders’ highest ranking since Oct. 20, 2013.
Texas Tech (4-0) is off to its best start since that 2013 season, when it opened with seven consecutive victories under then-first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury. The Red Raiders have now won their first four games by at least 24 points, becoming the first Big 12 program to achieve the feat since Baylor set the conference record with six straight such wins in 2015.
Through four games, Texas Tech has outscored its opponents 208-45 — the third-best point differential in the nation behind Indiana (186) and Oregon (166). The Red Raiders have allowed only three points in the first three quarters this season, with nearly all opponent scoring coming after starters exited with large leads.
Texas Tech is one of just five programs nationally to rank in the top 15 in both scoring offense and scoring defense, joining No. 3 Penn State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 8 Florida State and No. 11 Indiana. The Red Raiders average 52.0 points per game (sixth in the FBS) while allowing only 11.3 points per game (14th nationally).
The Red Raiders enter their first bye week before resuming Big 12 play Oct. 4 at Houston. They return to Jones AT&T Stadium Oct. 11 for Homecoming against Kansas, with fewer than 250 tickets remaining for that game and fewer than 500 left for the Nov. 8 home contest against No. 25 BYU. Tickets are available at TexasTech.com or by calling 806-742-TECH.
