The Red Raiders (6-0) remain undefeated and inside the top 10 of both major polls for the second straight week after ranking No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, a week ago. Texas Tech is one of only 11 remaining unbeaten teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
This marks the Red Raiders’ highest ranking in either poll since Nov. 23, 2008, when they were No. 7 in the AP poll following their first loss of that season at Oklahoma. That year, Tech spent three consecutive weeks ranked No. 2 after defeating then-No. 1 Texas and No. 8 Oklahoma State in back-to-back home games.
Texas Tech has dominated opponents during its 6-0 start — the only team in the nation to win every game by at least 20 points. The Red Raiders have also won their first three Big 12 contests by 24 points or more, a feat last achieved in 2015 by Baylor and accomplished just six times in Big 12 history.
The Red Raiders head into next week’s road matchup at Arizona State with the highest point differential in college football — outscoring opponents by an average of 35.3 points per game. Tech has not trailed in a single game this season, becoming the first Big 12 program since Baylor in 2015 to open 6-0 with that kind of scoring margin.
Texas Tech’s balance has fueled its rise, boasting one of the nation’s most explosive offenses and stingiest defenses. The Red Raiders are one of only two teams — along with unbeaten Indiana — to rank in the top 10 nationally in both scoring defense (4th) and total defense (9th), as well as scoring offense (2nd) and total offense (1st).
The program’s hot start marks its first 6-0 opening since 2013 and its second straight 3-0 start in Big 12 play.
Kickoff between Texas Tech and Arizona State is set for 3 p.m. CT Saturday at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe. The game will air nationally on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
