LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech sophomore guard Christian Anderson has been named one of five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association following his standout performance in the Red Raiders’ upset win over then-No. 3 Duke at Madison Square Garden.
Anderson joins Ja’Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee), Braden Huff (Gonzaga), Paul McNeil (NC State), and Stephon Payne (Seton Hall) on this week’s national list. The recognition comes in addition to being named Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season and earning his third selection to the Big 12 Starting Five.
Anderson helped lead a 17-point comeback against Duke on Saturday, finishing with a game-high 27 points — including 23 in the second half — while shooting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Earlier in the week, he posted 14 points and six assists in a win over Northern Colorado. For the week, he averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.
The USBWA’s national player of the week program has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009–10 season. As of the 2024–25 season, the program expanded to recognize five players per week from across NCAA Division I. This week’s selections were made from the list of conference players of the week announced Monday.
Anderson is currently leading the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally with 7.3 assists per game. He is also averaging 19.9 points per game, which places him sixth in the Big 12 and 37th in the country. He has connected on 40 of 92 three-point attempts (43.5%), ranking fourth in the conference in both 3-point percentage and made threes per game (3.3). The Atlanta native has scored in double figures in 11 games this season and has recorded five 20-point games.
