TEMPE, AZ — No. 13 Texas Tech will try to extend its three-game winning streak Tuesday night when the Red Raiders face Arizona State in Big 12 play at Desert Financial Arena.
Tipoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. CST.
Texas Tech (19-6, 9-3 Big 12) is coming off a 78-75 overtime victory over then-No. 1 Arizona — the program’s third win over a top-ranked team in school history and third victory over a top-10 opponent this season. Arizona State (13-12, 4-8) last played Feb. 11, defeating Oklahoma State 85-76.
JT Toppin led the Red Raiders in Tucson with 31 points and 13 rebounds, recording his 16th double-double of the season and earning Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this year. Christian Anderson added 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds, hitting six 3-pointers.
Toppin enters Tuesday averaging 21.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, leading the conference in double-doubles and offensive rebounds. Anderson leads the Big 12 with 7.7 assists per game and averages 19.1 points.
Texas Tech ranks among the conference’s top shooting teams, averaging 82.0 points per game while leading the Big 12 with 11.5 made 3-pointers per contest and shooting 38.9% from beyond the arc.
Arizona State is 7-5 at home this season and features Maurice Odom, who averages 17.0 points and 6.0 assists per game. Massamba Diop adds rim protection with 53 total blocks.
The matchup marks the 44th all-time meeting between the programs, with Texas Tech holding a 24-19 series lead and a 2-0 advantage since Arizona State joined the Big 12.
A win would give the Red Raiders their 19th 20-win season in program history and the third straight under coach Grant McCasland.
Texas Tech returns to Lubbock this weekend to host Kansas State before facing Cincinnati at United Supermarkets Arena.
