Texas Tech Closes 4-Game Road Trip on Tuesday Night at UTRGV

EDINBURG, TX — Texas Tech will look for its first win of the season Tuesday night when the Red Raiders face UT Rio Grande Valley to continue a season-opening road trip that has covered more than 1,500 miles across Texas.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

Texas Tech (0-3) enters the midweek matchup after being swept at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, falling to Oklahoma 10-3, No. 23 Vanderbilt 13-3, and No. 7 Arkansas 6-5 in 11 innings. Oklahoma went 3-0 in the event and outscored opponents 31-6 to win the team title.

The Red Raiders struggled offensively in the opening weekend, totaling 17 hits and one extra-base hit — a triple by Kyeler Thompson — while drawing 17 walks and batting .183 as a team. Senior Tracer Lopez recorded his first hit of the season Sunday, delivering a go-ahead two-run single against Arkansas, while seven Tech pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in the loss.

Left-hander Jorden Espinoza (0-0, 6.75 ERA) is expected to start for Texas Tech against UTRGV’s Kike Cienfuegos (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

Tuesday’s game concludes a four-game, three-city trip that began in Arlington and continued through San Marcos before reaching the Rio Grande Valley. Texas Tech will return to Lubbock on Wednesday.

The Red Raiders open their home schedule Friday with a 2 p.m. game against Albany at Rip Griffin Park.
