LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech completed a weekend sweep of Penn State on Sunday with a 14-4 run-rule victory at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red Raiders improved to 10-4 overall and 9-1 at home. Texas Tech has now recorded six run-rule victories this season.
Texas Tech took an early lead with a two-run double from Logan Hughes in the first inning and added three more runs in the second to go ahead 5-0. For the third straight game in the series, the Red Raiders forced Penn State’s starting pitcher out before the end of the second inning.
Penn State (4-8) answered with two runs in the third inning and single runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Texas Tech responded in the sixth inning. Freshman Linkin Garcia delivered a two-run single and Caden Ferraro added an RBI double off the right-field wall. Matt Quintanar followed with an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 9-4.
The Red Raiders ended the game in the seventh inning with five runs. Connor Shouse highlighted the inning with a two-run triple, and Ferraro added another RBI hit before Davis Rivers delivered a walk-off two-run single.
Will Jordan earned the victory in relief, recording four outs while allowing no runs. Jonny Lowe started for Texas Tech, pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his first start of the season. Heeryun Han also contributed two key outs from the bullpen.
At the plate, Shouse went 4-for-5, while Ferraro finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances.
Ferraro went 7-for-9 during the series with a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored. Shouse finished the weekend 7-for-12 with seven RBIs, while Hughes went 4-for-9 with six walks and six RBIs. Garcia drove in eight runs during the series and leads the team with 28 RBIs.
Texas Tech outscored Penn State 50-17 during the series and has now scored at least eight runs in 11 consecutive games, posting a 10-1 record during that stretch.
Through 14 games, the Red Raiders have scored 170 runs, averaging 12.1 runs per game, and are hitting .382 as a team. Ferraro leads the club with a .471 batting average, and all 10 Texas Tech players with at least 25 at-bats are hitting above .340 this season.
