LUBBOCK, TX — After hitting .417 with three home runs, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored, Texas Tech’s Logan Hughes was named the Big 12s Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Hughes homered in each of those four wins, including a game-winning solo shot in a 2-1 victory over BYU on Thursday and another homer in a 15-11 win against the Cougars on Saturday.
He homered in four of his last five games and seven of his last 12 to help the Red Raiders go 4-1 over their last five contests.
He opened the week with a 2-for-3 performance against Dallas Baptist, hitting a two-run home run and an RBI double in a 9-7 win while reaching base three times.
After going 0-for-4 in one game of the BYU series, Hughes rebounded in the rubber match, finishing 2-for-3 with four runs scored and five RBIs. He delivered a go-ahead two-run home run and later added a two-run single after driving in the game’s first run on a groundout.
With his recent surge, Hughes now has 19 career Big 12 Conference home runs, tying him for second all-time in program history alongside Jace Jung and Keith Ginter on the conference-only list.
His latest three home runs also give him 35 for his career, one shy of tying Eric Gutierrez for ninth all-time in program history.
A potential first-round pick in July’s MLB Draft, Hughes is batting .368 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs this season. He has added 15 doubles and one triple, with 32 of his 70 hits going for extra bases, and carries a .368/.496/.711 slash line into the final series of the regular season.
Texas Tech closes the regular season on the road against Cincinnati, with games scheduled Thursday through Saturday.
