Updated Olympic Medal Count: Ledecky Dominates Again

 

PARIS, FRANCE — The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway, and many American athletes will compete over the next few weeks for gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Here’s a look at how the United States is faring in the medal count as of Wednesday morning, July 31, compared to other countries:

  1. United States - 31 medals - 6 gold - 13 silver - 12 bronze
  2. France - 26 medals - 8 gold - 10 silver - 8 bronze
  3. China - 22 medals - 11 gold - 7 silver - 4 bronze
  4. Great Britain - 20 medals - 6 gold - 7 silver - 7 bronze
  5. Australia - 17 medals - 7 gold - 6 silver - 4 bronze
  6. Japan - 15 medals - 8 gold - 3 silver - 4 bronze
  7. Italy - 13 medals - 3 gold - 6 silver - 4 bronze
  8. South Korea - 12 medals - 6 gold - 3 silver - 3 bronze

The United States added two more gold medals over the past 24 hours. First, U.S. Swimmer Katie Ledecky smashed the competition to claim another 1st-place finish in the 1500m freestyle. Then, on Thursday morning, the U.S. men's four-rowing team claimed its first gold medal since the 1960s. The two top finishes move the U.S. Gold Medal count to six.

Notable gold medals for the USA include the Men’s 4x100-meter freestyle in swimming featuring Caeleb Dressel, Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, and Hunter Armstrong, Lee Keifer’s gold medal performance in fencing, and Torri Huske winning the gold in the Women’s 100m butterfly. Finally, the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team took gold in the team final.
