Jeep Crashes Into Covenant Clinic

LUBBOCK, TX — A woman driving a silver Jeep Cherokee may have experienced a medical condition that caused her to attempt to drive into the Southwest Diagnostic Clinic of Covenant Medical Group at the intersection of Memphis Avenue and 50th Street.

Dispatch informed first responders via radio that the vehicle had breached the building, but the driver had since put the Jeep in reverse and pulled back out. Upon arrival, we observed moderate damage to the building's lobby area, but the car did not fully enter the interior.

A worker at the scene reported that the driver initially left the Jeep in drive and continued to attempt to drive into the building. Despite the repeated attempts, the building held strong. The glass of a small window was smashed, but the exterior wall remained intact.

Tire skid marks were visible, indicating the driver’s continued efforts to drive forward into the building.

“Thank God we didn’t have anyone in the reception area when this happened. It would have really freaked everyone out,” the worker said.

EMS and the Lubbock Fire Department were assessing the health of the driver at the time we left. Police do not believe any citations will be issued. The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. on August 6, 2024.
