LUBBOCK, TX — One year after the Patriots officially opened their doors, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty athletes take another big step headed into 2024. For the football team, the Patriots will debut their inaugural season at the varsity level.
After playing a junior varsity schedule last season, Liberty, under Head Coach Joe Sexton, has enough experience under its belt to finally join the ranks among other Texas High School Football schools. The Patriots will play 4A football this season in District 2 with schools like Levelland and Lubbock Estacado.

The Patriots get out to a rough schedule with four straight-away games to start in 2024 while construction on Patriot Stadium continues. All four road opponents should be tough tests in their own right. Liberty opens up its home schedule against Fort Stockton, a team that finished 9-2 (4-1) last season, whose only district loss was to Monahans.
Liberty’s largest obstacles, once district play begins, fall in the final two weeks with Estacado at home and Levelland on the road. Estacado always brings a monstrously athletic roster to the fold and comes off a year where the Matadors finished runners-up in their district. New Head Coach and former Red Raider Eric Ward looks to continue that success this season, but Liberty should be able to compete with everyone on the schedule.
The Patriots begin their season on the road against New Home on Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m.
