LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech's Sam Courtwright, a standout midfielder for the Lady Raiders, has been named a Third Team Preseason All-American by TopDrawer Soccer.
This recognition comes after an impressive freshman season where Courtwright earned multiple accolades, including Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Third Team All-American, and Freshman All-American honors.
Courtwright's selection to TopDrawer Soccer's annual Preseason Best XI comes as no surprise following a debut season in which she scored five goals and provided eight assists. She was a key player for Texas Tech, starting in all 23 matches during the 2023 season.
The Dallas native played over 80 minutes in 11 games, including eight of the final ten matches of the year, and missed just 16 minutes during the Red Raiders' NCAA Tournament run. Her consistent performance solidified her reputation as one of the top freshmen and attacking midfielders in the nation.
This preseason honor adds to an already busy summer for Courtwright, who was also named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and selected for the U.S. Youth National Team roster for the upcoming 2024 U-20 FIFA World Cup in Colombia later this month.
Courtwright’s early success and recognition signal a promising future as she prepares for her sophomore season at Texas Tech. The No. 8 Lady Raiders hit the road to play No. 4 Penn State on Thursday, August 15, for what should be an exciting match, and a good measure for how Texas Tech will fare against the top teams in the nation this season.
