LPD Update on the Sunday Morning Central Lubbock Slaying

LUBBOCK, TX — An update has been provided regarding the reported fatality that occurred early Sunday morning, Aug. 25, in central Lubbock.

Officers were called to the 3600 block of 42nd Street at 3:07 a.m. in response to a report of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers found 35-year-old Jacob Munoz with severe injuries. Initial reports indicate that Munoz had been involved in an altercation with his brother, 32-year-old Jeremy Munoz. The altercation allegedly ended with Jeremy assaulting Jacob, causing life-threatening injuries.

Reportedly, Jeremy told detectives that an argument with his brother escalated into a physical fight inside their home. He said his brother put him in a chokehold, prompting him to grab a metal pole. After a family member urged Jacob to release Jeremy, the two went outside the house, and Jacob was later struck by the pole.

Officers administered life-saving measures before Jacob was transported to University Medical Center by EMS. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Jeremy was charged with murder and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

As of Tuesday, he remains at the correctional facility on a $300,000 bond.
