LUBBOCK, TX – The City of Lubbock is pleased to announce that Richard Stewart is the sole finalist for Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue, according to a press release. Stewart currently serves as the Assistant Chief – Special Services for the City of Irving Fire Department. Chief Stewart holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance; Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Certificate from Texas A&M University; Certified Fire Executive Certificate from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association and is a graduate of the Fire Service Executive Development Institute. Chief Stewart has served in all roles in a similar fire department and brings tremendous experience to Lubbock.
Chief Stewart completed a rigorous, nation-wide recruitment process for this position that attracted a very well-qualified group of finalists. Finalists went through several interviews, numerous activities and a public reception on August 15.

Chief Stewart's appointment will be presented to the Lubbock City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting on September 10, 2024 for confirmation. Stewart will join Lubbock Fire Rescue on October 7, 2024.
