TOLEDO, OH — The Texas Tech men's golf team is set to open its 2024-25 season at the Inverness Intercollegiate, hosted by Toledo, on September 9-10. The tournament will take place at the historic Inverness Club, a par-69, 6,972-yard course ranked No. 58 on Golf Digest's 2023-24 Top 100 Golf Courses in the United States.
The Red Raiders, ranked No. 4 in The Golf Channel’s preseason rankings and No. 15 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, return to the Inverness Intercollegiate as two-time defending champions. Texas Tech claimed team titles at the event in both 2022 and 2019.
The format for the 14-team tournament will be stroke play, with teams playing 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament features a strong field, including five teams ranked in the top 10 nationally: No. 1 Auburn, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Texas Tech, No. 5 Virginia, and No. 6 Vanderbilt.
Texas Tech’s lineup for the event will be anchored by senior Calum Scott, a Preseason First Team All-American and Fred Haskins Award Watchlist honoree. Scott, the only returning player from Texas Tech’s 2022 victory, finished second overall at the event last year with a 5-under-par performance. Scott led the team last season with a 70.9 scoring average over 41 rounds.
Joining Scott in the starting five will be freshman Connor Graham, who is making his Red Raider debut. Graham, a Scottish Open winner and former U18 European Golf Rankings No. 1, brings significant international experience, having competed in both the Walker Cup and Junior Ryder Cup.
Rounding out the lineup are senior transfer Charlie DeLong, sophomore Price Hill, and sophomore Tim Wiedemeyer. DeLong, who transferred to Texas Tech last spring, won two individual titles last year at the Prestige and All-American Intercollegiate. Ben Gregg will compete as an individual in the tournament.
Texas Tech looks to continue its success at the Inverness Intercollegiate, having previously won the team title by posting scores of 853 (+1) in 2022 and 856 (+1) in 2019. The club has a storied history, having hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, and the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.
Following the Inverness Intercollegiate, the Red Raiders will continue their fall season with appearances at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 20-22) and the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (September 30-October 1), among other key tournaments.
