Fatal Crash in Hale County Claims One Life

 

HALE COUNTY, TX — A fatal crash occurred Thursday morning, September 12, on U.S. Highway 70 near the Hale and Lamb County line, claiming the life of a 76-year-old woman.

The crash took place at approximately 8:40 a.m. near mile marker 288. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kathleen Ruth Dossey of Olton, Texas, was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 westbound when her vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes. Her car collided with a 2022 International truck tractor towing a semi-trailer, driven by 66-year-old Darko Festin of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Festin, who was wearing a seatbelt, attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. He was treated and released at the scene. Dossey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained during the crash.

The speed limit on this section of Highway 70 is 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the accident. The Texas Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate the incident.
