Texas Tech Golf Posts Strong Finish at Olympia Fields

 

OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL – Freshman Connor Graham led the Red Raiders during the first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational, shooting a 1-under-par 69 at Olympia Fields Country Club. His four birdies, including one after a weather delay, put him in a tie for 11th in the 78-player field. Texas Tech currently holds 12th place in the team standings among 15 teams.

Senior Calum Scott, competing in his 37th career event, finished tied for 22nd after an even-par 70, carding a bogey-free front nine. Sophomores Ben Gregg and Tim Wiedemeyer both shot 4-over-par 74, tying for 53rd. Gregg had a strong start but faltered on the front nine, while Wiedemeyer was even-par through 15 holes before finishing with two bogeys and a double bogey.

The Red Raiders posted a team score of 7-over-par (287), leading Alabama by four strokes and trailing Texas A&M by just one. Texas Tech resumes play on Saturday with round two, starting at 7:45 a.m. CT.
