ARLINGTON, TX — Lubbock Christian University’s women’s tennis team recently delivered standout performances at the Women's Tennis ITA South Central Regional, held at the Arlington Tennis Center and hosted by Dallas Baptist University.
Leading the Lady Chaparrals over the weekend was Anastasiia Opolska, who made history by becoming the first LCU player to reach the semifinals of the top-flight singles bracket. Opolska claimed four impressive victories, defeating UTD's Reika Nagai, Angelo State's Eva Schwartz, DBU's Andrea Delgado, and Emily Buchanan. Her run came to an end in the semifinals after falling in straight sets to Midwestern State’s Sofia Giraldo. Opolska finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, improving to 6-1 on the season.
LCU also saw strong performances from Mariia Koroleva and Andrea De Bernardo, both of whom reached the Round of 16 in the top-flight singles bracket.
In doubles action, the duo of De Bernardo and Axelle Jacquemin made a deep run, reaching the finals of the top-flight doubles bracket. The pair secured wins over teams from TAMIU, Angelo State, and DBU before falling in a tie-breaker in the championship match against Cameron. De Bernardo and Jacquemin are the first LCU doubles team to make it to the regional finals in the ITA event, finishing 3-1 in Arlington and 8-1 on the season.
LCU’s depth was also on display in the doubles "B" bracket, where Maizy Adams and Alexandra Luders reached the final but were edged out by UTPB.
While LCU has now completed their fall schedule, De Bernardo and Jacquemin are awaiting an at-large berth for the ITA Cup, scheduled for October 10-11 in Rome, Georgia.
