Texas Tech Soccer Upsets No. 12 Oklahoma State on the Road

STILLWATER, OK — The Texas Tech Red Raiders Soccer team upset No. 12 Oklahoma State with a 2-0 victory on the road on Sunday. Kaitlyn Giametta and Ashleigh Williams each put a ball in the back of the net in Texas Tech's win. With the win at Neall Patterson Stadium, the Red Raiders extended their unbeaten streak to 20 consecutive matches.

The match began as a defensive battle, but Texas Tech (7-2-1, 2-0-1 Big 12) broke through in the 38th minute. A brilliant 1-2 combination between Skylar Haase and Taylor Zdrojewski set up Giametta for a sliding strike to give the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Eighteen minutes into the second half, Texas Tech doubled its lead when Ashleigh Williams netted her second goal of the season, courtesy of a perfect cross from Giametta. The play was made possible by Macy Blackburn's impressive run and assist, which was her 28th career assist—a new program record.

The victory not only keeps Texas Tech unbeaten in its last 11 Big 12 road matches (7-0-4), but it also marks the team's highest-ranked road win since defeating No. 9 Kansas in 2014. Last season, the Red Raiders earned a 2-1 win over then-No. 14 Texas on the road.

Goalkeeper Faith Nguyen played a pivotal role in the win, recording two saves and earning her third consecutive Big 12 clean sheet, bringing her season total to five. Texas Tech's defense has been formidable, allowing just three goals over the last nine matches and only one goal in the last six.

With the loss, Oklahoma State (8-2-1, 1-2-0 Big 12) suffers a setback in conference play, while Texas Tech strengthens its position atop the Big 12 standings. Texas Tech's victory marked the ladies' second win over a top-15 team on the road in as many seasons.

Texas Tech returns to action on Thursday night when they head to Kansas State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Manhattan, Kansas.
