Manhunt Underway After Suspect Shoots Texas Officer

 

HALL COUNTY, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert early Friday morning for 33-year-old Seth Altman, who is wanted in connection with the serious injury of City Police Chief, Rex Plant, in Memphis, Texas.

Altman is described as a 6’2" white male with blue eyes and red/auburn hair, weighing approximately 220 pounds. DPS stated he was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans.

The incident occurred when the Memphis Police Chief served a burglary warrant at a residence. Authorities report that Altman fled out the back door, firing 3 shots at the chief as he escaped. The chief was subsequently transported to a hospital in Lubbock, where he is reportedly in stable condition as of 6:25 a.m.

On Thursday, DPS officials noted that Altman was last seen in the 200 block of South 4th Street in Memphis around 11:04 p.m.

In response to the overnight incident, the Memphis Independent School District announced a delayed class start, beginning at 10 a.m.

Authorities are urging the public to consider Altman armed and dangerous.

DPS does not advise approaching him and encourages people to call 9-1-1 immediately.
