The Eagles jumped out to a hot start after they received the opening kickoff. Quarterback Welker Horn was on fire early as he connected with several receivers on Lubbock Christian's first drive. The Eagles found the end zone quickly to take the lead, 8-0. Lubbock Christian went for a 2-point conversion every time they scored. It was a bold strategy, but it worked out several times on Friday night.

After the Eagles' defense stuffed the Cubs on their first possession, LCHS took no time to find the end zone again. This time, a pass from Horn to Cooper Carthel in the back of the endzone extended the Eagles' lead to 16-0.

Brownfield finally found some success but ran into trouble around midfield. The special teams unit did an excellent job of downing the ensuing punt at Lubbock Christian's 1-yard line, but the Eagles responded with an explosive play. Horn motioned running back Dai Dai Atkins out of the backfield to set up shop in an empty formation. Atkins showed impressive speed after the snap and blew by his defender. Horn hit him in stride en route to an 83-yard touchdown. After the successful 2-point try, the Eagles led 24-0 with more than half of the 1st quarter remaining.

Brownfield finally pushed deep into Lubbock Christian's territory on their next offensive possession, but the Eagles defense stepped up again. Lubbock Christian forced a 4th down before they forced an errant pass on 4th down. The Eagles took over with time winding down in the 1st quarter. Atkins delivered several tough runs after that, including two back-to-back runs inside the Cubs' 30-yard line that gave the young man another touchdown. The early in the 2nd quarter, 32-0.

The game continued like this for the remainder of the first half. Brownfield would try time and time again to make something happen on the ground, but Lubbock Christian's defense proved too strong to overcome. To add insult to injury, the Eagles added two more touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to lead at the break 48-0.

In the 2nd half, Lubbock Christian would score one more touchdown before the backups took over. Brownfield played much better in the 2nd half on defense. They only allowed the single touchdown, but could not quite figure Lubbock Christian out when the Cubs had the ball. Lubbock Christian won in the end, 54-0, to claim a sweet homecoming victory.

The  Lubbock Christian Eagles (5-1) return to action on Friday, October 11, for a home district matchup against Lake Country Christian. Meanwhile, the Brownfield Cubs (0-6) travel to San Angelo next weekend, October 11, to play the Lake View Chiefs.
