Two Lubbock Athletes Up for Dave Campbell's Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week

 

LUBBOCK, TX — Two Lubbock High School Football players were recently nominated for Dave Campbell’s Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week for their performances in Week 7. Michael Dever from Lubbock-Cooper and Chase Campbell from Frenship are both up for the award.

Michael Dever, a wide receiver for the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates, helped lead his team to another district victory last Friday over Abilene Cooper. The Texas Tech commit hauled in six catches for 83 yards and two touchdown catches through the air. He also added one carry for 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground. As a kick returner, he also added a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Frenship Tigers Chase Campbell

The Frenship Tigers Chase Campbell, usually known for his receiving exploits out wide also had a big game on the ground. Campbell rushed the ball 10 times for 104 yards and touchdown. As a receiver, he hauled in three targets for 68 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw a 49-yard touchdown pass in the game. He was credited for 5 total touchdowns in the district win over Midland High last weekend.

Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week Award recognizes the most outstanding high school football player in the state of Texas. Each week, fans are given a chance to vote for the player of the week on TexasFootball.com. At the end of the high school football season, 10 finalists will be named. Fans can then cast their vote as to who should be named Mr. Texas Football. The winner of the Mr. Texas Football Award will be announced prior to the TaxAct Texas Bowl.

Previously, Frenship Tigers quarterback Holden Phillips won the award in Week 2.
