Lubbock Gears Up for United Supermarkets Marathon Sunday

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The United Supermarkets Lubbock Marathon will take place this Sunday, October 27, with support from the City of Lubbock, the Lubbock Police Department, and Lubbock Fire Rescue.

The marathon will be centered around the Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza near 19th Street and Crickets Avenue. From 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a family-friendly festival will be held near the Buddy Holly Statue, featuring vendors and inflatables for guests of all ages.

The marathon course will start and finish on Crickets Avenue, taking runners through the Canyon Lake System, Texas Tech University’s campus, and residential neighborhoods in the city.

Timeline of Events:

  • 8:00 a.m.: Hand Cycle marathon, Push Chair marathon, Marathon, and Half Marathon begin
  • 8:10 a.m.: 5K race begins
  • 8:15 a.m.: 10K race begins
  • 9:00 a.m.: Kids Fun Run begins

Road closures along the race routes will begin at 4 a.m., with portions reopening as segments are cleared. All routes are expected to be fully reopened by 3 p.m. Sunday.
