HOBBS, NM — The Hobbs Police Department issued a warning to the Hobbs community on Wednesday, October 23, about two scams currently in the area.
The first scam involves a misleading social media post claiming that a 5-year-old child was found wandering behind houses in Hobbs. The police department confirmed this information was false and urged the public not to share it. Any legitimate requests for assistance locating a child’s family will be made through the department’s official social media channels.
The second scam involves individuals impersonating Hobbs police officers and demanding money to resolve alleged warrants for arrest. The department emphasized that it will never contact citizens personally to collect money for any reason.
If anyone has received a call of this nature, the Hobbs Police Department advises them to hang up immediately and report the incident by calling (575) 397-9265.
