Everything Lubbock Needs to Know About How to Vote on November 5

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The November 5 General Election is upon us. Here, we have compiled everything you need to know about election day and who is running in various races.

First, registered voters must bring an identification card, such as a driver's license or voter registration card, to the polling location. You can vote at any polling location in the county, but where your residence is located on the county precinct map determines what ballot you will receive. Don't worry—there are only four county precincts, so this should be fairly simple. You can find your precinct here.

Second, do your research. Here are the contested races you'll need to research before voting in ballot order. The candidates for local elections will only have contests for the precinct in which you reside. For example, if you live in Wolfforth, you will not see Shallowater ISD school board choices and vice versa. Uncontested races are not listed:

Shall the City of Lubbock (the city) annex approximately 374.74 acres commonly known as the Highland Oaks subdivision and located within an area located south of 146th Street (F.M. 7500), east of Frankford Avenue, north of Woodrow Road (F.M. 7600), and west of Slide Road (F.M. Road 1730), (the area), thereby to include the area inside the full purpose city limits of the city, resulting in the city providing municipal services in accordance with Texas local government Code Section 43.0692; the area shall be subject to the jurisdiction, laws, and regulations of the city; and the city shall impose a property tax each year on all property in the area at the same rate that is imposed on other property in the city

Ratifying the ad valorem tax rate of $0.75670 per $100 valuation in Frenship Independent School District for the current year, a rate that will result in an increase of 18.59 percent in maintenance and operations tax revenue for the district for the current year as compared to the preceding year, which is an additional $5,300,921.

The issuance of $189,500,000 of bonds by the Frenship Independent School District for safety and security infrastructure; campus and facility upgrades, repairs and renovations; campus and facility parking lots; two new elementary schools; the purchase of school buses, transportation safety equipment and vehicles; and the purchase of sites for school facilities, and levying the tax for payment of principal and interest on the bonds. This is a property tax increase.
