LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock's new McAlister Pickleball Facility will officially open on Monday, November 18. A grand opening event will begin at 3:00 p.m. at 6401 Marsha Sharp Freeway, and players of all skill levels are invited to celebrate the new courts.
The facility, funded by a $1.5 million allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act, features 12 lighted outdoor courts, covered seating areas, restrooms, and a parking lot. The city initially planned for 8-10 courts, but the final design included extra courts due to Lubbock's growing demand for pickleball.
Lubbock Parks and Recreation and the local group Lubbock Plays Pickleball are working to enhance the facility further. According to a release, the city plans to raise funds for additional covered courts. The city has also used ARPA funds to improve other park amenities, including new playgrounds, splash pads, and walking trails.
The courts are open to players of all ages and experience levels.
