Two Month Old Infant Hospitalized After Alleged Child Abuse

MIDLAND, TX — A 2-month-old infant is receiving medical treatment for potentially life-threatening injuries following a suspected case of child abuse, according to the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrested Malachi James Kendrick, 19, on charges of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

Deputies and investigators responded to a report of suspected child abuse at Midland Memorial Hospital on November 17, where the infant was initially treated. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was later transferred to Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock for specialized care.

Following an investigation, authorities determined Kendrick was in possession of the child when the injuries occurred. He was arrested and booked into the Midland County Central Detention Center.

Sheriff David Criner reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children, from harm.

Kendrick remains in custody as the investigation continues. Further details regarding the child’s condition or the nature of the injuries have not been released.

Residents are encouraged to contact local law enforcement or child protection services if they suspect any abuse or neglect.
