STILLWATER, OK — An absolute barn-burner of a 2nd half reminiscent of the Mike Leach days between Texas Tech and Oklahoma State saw the Red Raiders hold off a comeback attempt from the Cowboys on Saturday. Tahj Brooks led the way for the Red Raiders in the final two quarters with three 2nd half-touchdowns as Texas Tech defeated Oklahoma State 56-48.
After Brooks gave the Red Raiders the lead on a 25-yard touchdown catch with four seconds left in the 2nd quarter, Tech entered the locker room knowing that Oklahoma State would not go away in the 2nd half.
The Cowboys came out of the locker room and scored quickly, forcing the Red Raiders to answer repeatedly. Brooks opened the 2nd half with a touchdown before Jaylen Conyers scored on a deep ball following another Oklahoma State score. Brooks converted a 4th down attempt with a 40-yard touchdown later in the 3rd quarter, but Oklahoma State would tie the game at 42 just a bit later.
Texas Tech would retake the lead after a pass to Coy Eakin set up Texas Tech at the Cowboys’ 2-yard line. Tahj Brooks pushed his way into the end zone two plays later to put the Red Raiders up 49-42.
On the ensuing possession, Texas Tech’s defense finally made the play that the Red Raiders’ desperately needed. A snap over Oklahoma State’s Smith’s head had the two teams in a footrace to the end zone. Jacob Rodriguez dove on the loose ball in the end zone for the defensive score. Tech went up 56-42 with less than six minutes to play.
Oklahoma State would score again, but time was running out. The Red Raiders drained another two minutes off the clock before punting the ball back to the Cowboys with 13 seconds left in the contest. Rodriguez proved once again why he is one of the premier linebackers in the country with an interception near midfield, and the celebrations began.
Behren Morton kneeled out the remaining time on the clock, and the Red Raiders claimed victory, 56-48.
Tahj Brooks finished the contest with 28 carries for 133 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He added 9 catches for 65 yards and a score in the Red Raiders victory on Saturday.
Texas Tech moved to 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in Big 12 play with the road win. Next up, the Red Raiders host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, November 30, for the final game home game of the 2024 season.
