LUBBOCK, TX — A fatal crash between two motorcycles on Marsha Sharp Freeway on December 23 left one man dead after being ejected. He was taken to the hospital and later died due to the injuries.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, at approximately 4:49 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash in the westbound lanes of the 5300 block of Marsha Sharp Freeway. An investigation revealed that Maguire Vogel, 22, and Ceasar Espejo, 21, were both riding separate motorcycles westbound in the left lane when the two motorcycles made contact.
Vogel lost control of his motorcycle, swerving to the right, and struck a guardrail. He was ejected from the bike after the crash and hit the asphalt, causing severe injuries.
EMS transported Vogel to University Medical Center with serious injuries, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Espejo was not injured in the crash.
The Lubbock Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision. Reckless driving is probable, but no one has confirmed if that is the cause.
Drivers are no longer being asked to avoid the area as the scene has been cleared. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
