LUBBOCK, TX — Hazardous road conditions continue to hamper drivers throughout Lubbock as a winter ice storm moves through the area on Thursday.
Police communications indicated that several crashes occurred throughout the city, including one on 98th St and Indiana Ave, 19th St and Quaker Ave, and 50th St and West Loop 289. One of our reporters was on the scene at West Loop 289 and 50th St.
That crash involved a maroon Dodge Ram and a blue Toyota RAV-4. It is not clear what caused the collision, but there was observable damage on the passenger side of the Dodge Ram and on the driver's side of the RAV-4.
An ambulance showed up at the scene, but our reporter observed the ambulance leave with no lights on. Whether or not this indicated no injuries is unclear.
As a public service announcement, Lubbock drivers are encouraged to exercise caution while moving on the roads due to the icy conditions. The weather is expected to plummet this evening to 25 degrees by 8 a.m. Friday morning. However, there is no precipitation in the forecast.
