Estacado Matadors Dominate Home Floor For Another District Win

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Estacado Matadors hosted the Lake View Chiefs on Friday night for a district matchup that would keep the Matadors on top of the district with a win. Estacado proved why the No. 7 Matadors were state-ranked as they hung 100 points on Lake View and claimed a 110-46 victory.

Before the game began, Lubbock ISD's Athletic Director Coach Meeks honored long-time Estacado Head Coach Tony Wagner for achieving his 500th career win earlier this week. Coach Meeks presented Wagner with a commemorative game ball to mark the occasion.

After tip-off, the Matadors were relentless on defense. It did not seem to matter what Lake View did; Estacado suffocated the chiefs with defensive pressure. Turnovers turned into fast-break points as Estacado built a huge 62-17 lead into the half.

Estacado's Moses Stephenson led all scorers with 30 points, followed by Shakure Wilson with 25 points. Braylon White led the Chiefs with 13 points in the loss.

The Chiefs played better on offense in the final two quarters, but at that point, Estacado was too far ahead for it to matter. Estacado improved to 20-6, 3-0 in District, with the win. Lake View fell to  11-12 on the year and 2-1 in the District with the loss.

Estacado returns to action on Tuesday, January 21, when the Matadors travel to Big Spring to take on the Steers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lake View hosts Levelland in San Angelo next Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
