LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock is officially the second city in Texas to be named a Digital Media Friendly Texas Certified Community.
Governor Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday, praising the city for its growing role in digital media industries like VFX, video games, and extended reality.
The Digital Media Friendly program helps cities attract digital media companies and boost local jobs and investment. Lubbock earned the certification after completing a multi-step process in Texas's booming digital media sector.
Governor Abbott commented in a statement, saying, “Texas is a leader in innovation, and this program will help keep our state on top in digital media.” He also thanked the Texas Film Commission for helping cities like Lubbock showcase their resources to digital media companies.
Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer called the designation a “huge win” for the city, saying it will bring more jobs and opportunities to the area.
Dustin Burrows, speaker of the Texas House pointed out that Lubbock’s strong connection with Texas Tech University helps create a pipeline for future digital media talent.
The first city to be named a Digital Media Friendly Texas Certified Community was Cedar Park, Texas.
