Trio Arrested After Attempted Truck Burglary, One Flees

LUBBOCK, TX — Three people were arrested after attempting to break into a truck on 31st Street in Lubbock on Thursday, January 30.

According to court documents, Lubbock Police officers responded to a call about a grey Nissan with three people inside. The three were later identified as Alizae Andrews, 24, Liliana Dones, 23, and Jesus Romero, 20, who were allegedly breaking into a Chevrolet truck.

When officers arrived, they found the truck with its driver’s side and rear doors open and broken glass on the ground. Documents stated that someone had gone through the truck, possibly looking for something to steal.

The truck owner told officers he had accidentally left his vehicle unlocked before entering his house.

When authorities arrived, Romero exited the truck, quickly climbed into the Nissan, and drove off. Police followed the car and performed a traffic stop. When they approached the vehicle, Romero jumped out and ran on foot. Officers chased and detained him, then brought him back to the car.

Court documents stated Romero was wearing a black jacket and a light-colored hoodie. They confirmed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest relating to Domestic Violence, Assault, and Assault that Causes Bodily Injury.

Officers later spoke with a credible witness who had seen Andrews sitting in the driver’s seat of the grey Nissan, with Dones sitting behind her. The witness reported that Romero was inside the truck. Based on the witness's statement, officers had enough evidence to believe Andrews, Dones, and Romero were involved in the burglary and had planned to steal from the truck.

All three suspects were arrested and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Romero faces charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Burglary of Vehicles, and Evading Arrest Detention, and the outstanding warrants are held on bonds totaling $59,000.

Andrews and Dones also face charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Burglary of Vehicles and are held on bonds totaling $9,000 each.
