FT. WORTH, TX — A former University of Texas wide receiver was arrested in Fort Worth on Tuesday, according to Tarrant County jail records.
Johntay Cook II, 20, who left the Longhorns program in November, faces charges of interfering with public duties and theft of property valued between $100 and $750. According to inmate logs in Tarrant County, law enforcement booked Cook into the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth early on Tuesday morning.
During his brief time at Texas, Cook showed promise as a freshman. He appeared in 19 total games, catching 16 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.
After just a year and a half with the Longhorns, he decided to leave the program in November 2024.
After announcing plans to transfer, Cook briefly committed to the University of Washington in December 2024. However, his time there was short-lived, and the school confirmed in January that he was no longer part of its football program.
Details surrounding Cook’s arrest remain unclear and authorities have not released additional information about the specific circumstances leading to the charges.
Updates will be provided as more information is released.
