On The Border Officially Closes its Doors

LUBBOCK, TX — On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina has closed its Lubbock location for good.

A note on the door states, “With a heavy heart, we announce that this location is now permanently closed. We are incredibly grateful for your support and loyalty over the years—it has been an honor to serve you.”

The restaurant shut down this past Saturday after a manager confirmed the closure. Reports stated that a U-Haul truck was seen outside the restaurant on Sunday morning, loading furniture and other items.

This closure comes just a month after Costa Vida, Sprinkles, and Pei Wei closed its doors. On The Border is now the fourth restaurant in 2025 to close and has been serving Lubbock for nearly 3 decades.

The Mexican Grill and Cantina chain started in Dallas in 1982 and now has over 100 locations worldwide. Despite its many locations, the Lubbock restaurant had a loyal customer base and was a popular spot for casual dining.

Although the restaurant is permanently closed, On The Border is located at 6709 Slide Road.
