Wolfforth Fire Claims 15 Pets Despite Rescue

WOLFFORTH, TX – A fire that broke out early Wednesday morning in Wolfforth has claimed the lives of several pets.

According to a social media post, at around 8:20 a.m., Wolfforth Fire & EMS were dispatched to a residential fire at 3rd Street and Delta Avenue, near Frenship Middle School. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from a small, single-story home.

Fire crews immediately began fighting the fire and conducting a search inside the house. With visibility nearly impossible due to the thick smoke, they managed to rescue 13 cats and 2 dogs from the home. The animals did not survive due to the heavy smoke.

Firefighters also struggled to reach certain areas of the house because of multiple roof layers and hidden spaces. Crews are still working to put out any remaining hot spots.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
