FORT STOCKTON, TX — Too much offense. That's the only way to describe the No. 5 Monterey Lady Plainsmen's Area Championship victory over El Paso Burges on Friday night. The Lady Plainsmen made the long trip to Fort Stockton, but after an outstanding performance from Aaliyah Chavez, Monterey left Area Champions, 91-52.

Chavez unsurprisingly led all scorers on the evening with 45 points. She continues to dominate any competition that she faces, and that was no different on Friday night. Monterey took the lead early but could not stop Burges from hanging around for much of the first half. However, a 21-point effort from Monterey in 2nd quarter gave the Lady Plainsmen a 38-22 advantage at the half.
Burges stormed back in the 3rd quarter, with three made threes to start the half. Once again, Chavez stepped up to stop the comeback. She also made consecutive threes to kill the run and keep Monterey ahead.

Monterey dominated the 4th quarter 27-17 to put an exclamation point on an almost flawless victory.
Aliya Chavez dropped 45 points, followed by Ambrosia Cole with 29 points. Alyssa Morales led El Paso Burges with 19 points.
Lubbock Monterey advances to the Regional Semifinal against Forth Worth Brewer next week. The date, time, and location are still TBD.
