LUBBOCK, TX — As dangerously cold temperatures hit the South Plains area this week, the City of Lubbock is opening all public libraries as emergency warming centers to help people stay warm.
According to a press release, the libraries will be available through Friday at 6:00 p.m.
Emergency warming centers are activated when the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures at 25 degrees or below, an inch or more of snow, freezing rain, or extreme wind chills.
Anyone can visit the libraries during their regular hours to warm up, get water, use free Wi-Fi, and charge their devices. The City asks that visitors be respectful of others and mindful of any scheduled events at the libraries.
