Texas Tech Cancels Classes, Starts Spring Break Early

LUBBOCK, TX — Due to the events unfolding around Texas Tech University campus on Wednesday, March 12, the University made the decision to cancel classes on Thursday and Friday and start Spring Break early.

Texas Tech released a statement on X making the announcement.

An explosion at a substation on campus near the Engineering key caused a power outage on Tech campus and TTUHSC. Due to multiple fires reported on campus, some coming from a manhole, the university evacuated the students.

Spring Break was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, March 17. The students now have a few extra days off while the university deals with the fallout from Wednesday night.

Texas Tech PD urges students to wait until morning to leave for Spring Break due to unforeseen circumstances that accompany traveling at night.
