Texas Tech's Joey McGuire on First Practice with Pads

LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Tech Red Raiders continue through Spring Football. This week, the Red Raiders strap on the pads for some true football practice. Head Coach Joey McGuire spoke on his thoughts about putting on the pads.

Watch the press conference below:

"It was a good day," McGuire said. "We really shortened the field. It was all red zone. I thought there were some really good runs—the offensive line cleaned up for some really clean runs. There were also times that I thought the defensive line dominated. It kind of went back and forth. It was really good to see."

The Red Raiders bring a bit of a different look this season due to the incoming transfer class and newer recruits. Texas Tech will be bigger across the board.

"We are bigger, size-wise, that's evident," McGuire continued. "When you have a 6'9" Tight End in Mason Tharpe, come out and the first thing out of his mouth is, Coach, we are a lot bigger, that really tells you because he is a big man."

Size on the defense has been an issue for Texas Tech in the past. It is good to see that the transfer portal and recruiting efforts by McGuire and his staff are paying off.

Texas Tech continues Spring Ball through the month of April, with the Spring Game being held on April 19.
