DALLAS, TX — Reports of an active shooter at Wilmer-Hutchins High School Tuesday afternoon prompted a massive police response and temporary lockdown of the campus in southeast Dallas.
According to reports, police and emergency crews were called to the school just after 1 p.m. on April 15 after reports of gunfire. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Two others were also transported from the scene, but it’s unclear if they were injured in the shooting.
Helicopter footage showed dozens of police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances surrounding the school. Students were seen running across a grassy field before being evacuated to the bleachers near the football stadium.
By 2:14 p.m., Dallas ISD announced the active threat had ended. “Wilmer-Hutchins High School is secured.”
Officers from Dallas PD and Dallas ISD Police spent the afternoon clearing the school building and setting up a command post on-site.
School officials asked parents and the public to stay away from the campus while law enforcement handled the situation. No information has been released yet about a suspect or possible motive.
