Man Wearing Headphones Killed by Incoming Train in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — A man was hit and killed by a train Tuesday afternoon while walking along the tracks in Abilene, according to the Abilene Police Department.

The incident happened just after 1:00 p.m. on April 15 on the train tracks after multiple callers reported seeing a man walking along the tracks with headphones on when he was hit by an eastbound train. 

Officers arrived to find the man deceased at the scene from traumatic injuries.

According to a press release, investigators believe the victim was unaware of the approaching train due to wearing headphones. 

His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Justice of the Peace Shawna Joiner pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Abilene Police Department is handling the case as a death investigation.

Officials remind the public to avoid walking along train tracks. Authorities urge everyone to remain alert and aware of their surroundings, especially near active rail lines.
