Abandoned Tire Shop Burns Down Again

LUBBOCK, TX An abandoned tire shop near 18th Street and Avenue B went up in flames early Tuesday morning.

According to a release from Lubbock Fire Rescue, crews were called out around 7:20 a.m. on April 16 after several 911 callers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters from Station 1 were the first to arrive and found the structure fully involved with heavy fire.

Crews began an interior attack but struggled to move through the building due to piles of debris, trash, and old tires. As conditions worsened and flames broke through the roof, all firefighters were ordered to evacuate. Moments later, the roof collapsed.

The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished. No injuries were reported.

According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, this same building caught fire on Christmas Day in 2024. Because of ongoing safety concerns, the Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the City of Lubbock Code Enforcement to consider emergency demolition of the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
