LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock reminds artists that there is one week left for submissions for its 2025 Storm Drain Art Project.
According to a press release, the project is part of the city’s effort to raise awareness about the impact of stormwater pollution. Stormwater flows untreated into local waterways, picking up trash and pollutants along the way. The murals educate the public about how everyday actions affect drainage and water quality.
This year’s theme is “It All Flows Together.” Applicants must live in Lubbock County and be at least 18 years old at the time of signing the contract.
Four artists will be chosen to paint murals on storm drains at 13th Street and Texas Avenue. Painting begins June 2, and the completed artwork will be part of the First Friday Art Trail on June 6. Each artist will receive $1,000, and one mural will be chosen as the fan favorite for an extra $250 prize.
Supplies will be provided by the City to meet environmental standards, said the release. Murals are expected to last 3 to 5 years.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 25, at 11:59 p.m.
